Hi! I’m Joy, and I am currently studying Business Management at King’s College London. I graduated from the International Baccalaureate with a 36/45. Hi, I’m Alfie — a recent Classics graduate from the University of Manchester with a deep love of language, literature, and big ideas. I tutor in Latin, Ancient Greek, English, and Religious Studies. I studied Latin at both GCSE and A-Level (achieving an A in each), before reading Classics at the University of Manchester, where I graduated with a 2:1. At university, I focused heavily on mastering Classical Languages — Latin and Ancient Greek — and even studied at the Novum Vivarium in Rome, a renowned school where all instruction is delivered entirely in spoken Latin. Alongside my language studies, I developed a strong interest in the cultural, literary, and philosophical dimensions of the ancient world — interests which naturally extend into English and Religious Studies. I’ve hosted a podcast with Luke Ranieri, one of the world’s foremost scholars in modern spoken Latin, where we explored topics ranging from grammar to deeper questions about meaning and tradition. I’ve now been tutoring for over a year across various platforms. My teaching style is grounded in curiosity and collaboration: I like to ask open-ended questions and guide students toward figuring things out for themselves. Hi! I am a Masters graduate with a Distinction in Creative Writing, along with a First Class Honours degree in English Literature from Durham University. I also achieved A* in English Literature at A Level and A* in English Literature and English Language at GCSE. My lessons are generally structured around past questions from the relevant exam board. I will usually give students 5-10 minutes to read the extract and make initial notes relating to the question, before going through my own notes and how I would approach the question. This includes close analysis of key themes, literary devices and the writer's intentions, alongside a suggested essay structure which takes students through what to include paragraph by paragraph. I then give students the opportunity to begin writing a response to the question and am available to offer assistance as required. Students can then finish the question as homework and I will provide feedback in our next session - if requested, I can also provide live feedback paragraph by paragraph while you are writing. I'm currently working on the novel I wrote for my Master's degree and gathering research for my PhD next year. At GCSE level, I achieved grade 9s in all of my Humanities subjects, including English Language, English Literature, and History. Passionate about education, language, and the ways in which they interact in our everyday lives, I pursued the study of English Literature, History, and Psychology at A Level, alongside completing an EPQ. Achieving an A* in History and full marks in my English Literature coursework, I chose to continue my study of English at university. Throughout the past three years, I have worked formally as a tutor for both English Language GCSE and English Literature GCSE. My approach is constantly evolving and is led by the belief that enjoyment of learning is the prerequisite to success.
