Hi, I’m James, a university student studying Environment, Economics, and Ecology at the University of York. I achieved a Grade 8 in GCSE Geography, 97% in my A level research project, and have a strong passion for helping students succeed. I have been a tutor with Edumentors since September 2025, teaching GCSE AQA and IGCSE Edexcel Geography, and both my students are making excellent progress. I have previously provided in-class teaching assistant support for GCSE German language learners during my A-levels, helping improve language skills, and was recognised with an award for outstanding support. I have also completed a York Students in Schools placement as a SEN support Classroom Assistant at Huntington School, working with teachers to support learning and engagement, and support pupils within the Enhanced Resource Provision (ERP). I will be undertaking a Speech, Language and Communication classroom assistant placement from September. I also have a strong interest in wildlife and biodiversity, having worked as a Research Assistant in South Africa with Operation Wallacea. Throughout each tutoring session, I aim to support students in gaining the required knowledge and answering exam-style questions. Hi, I am Andrew, an LSE student reading history. I am a strong believer that anyone who has the right guidance and a way into a topic or subject can achieve the very best grades. Similarly, with universities I believe that my experience of getting an offer at London’s best university (8 applications per place), according to the Complete University Guide and The Times, shows the strength of my approach. As a fully qualified Tennis Coach I have considerable experience in coaching people and in communicating effectively with people, all of whom learn in different ways. Coaching tennis has taught me important time management skills, when balancing that with academic work. I achieved 10 A* at GCSE (5 at Grade 8; 5 at Grade 9) and achieved 2 A* in History and in Economics and an A in Politics at A Level. I am particularly keen to help A Level Economics student who may struggle with the longer essay response questions, especially if they come from a STEM background where essays are not the norm for assessment. I am also interested in helping A Level History and Politics students. Likewise, I feel that I have much to offer GCSE students in Geography and History where I achieved two grade 9s. Moreover, I am also happy to help with university applications and to offer guidance over which course is best suited. I am happy to adapt to whichever learning style suits you best. I'm a third-year BA Geography student at the London School of Economics (LSE), and before that I studied at Magdalen College School in Oxford, where I took A-Levels in Geography, Chemistry, Mathematics and Philosophy. That spread of subjects means I can tutor across the sciences, maths and essay-based humanities, and three years of university study have sharpened how I explain ideas, build arguments and approach exams. My approach is simple: make sure the student properly understands the core ideas, then build the study habits and exam technique that turn that understanding into marks. I adapt each session to the student, whether that means slowing down on a difficult topic, working through past papers, or helping them plan and write stronger essays. Primary School I tutor Maths and English, breaking harder topics into small, clear steps. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and confident tackling new material on their own. GCSE I tutor Geography, Chemistry and Maths, covering both content and exam technique so students go into their exams prepared. My Philosophy background also means I can support Religious Studies and critical thinking. A-Level I tutor Geography, Chemistry, Maths and Philosophy, all subjects I achieved top grades in myself. I currently work one-to-one with A-Level Geography and Philosophy students, and now studying Geography at degree level gives me a deeper grasp of the theory behind the specification. Sessions cover content, essay writing, exam strategy and how to meet the demands of each exam board's mark scheme. Oxbridge and University Applications Having gone through the competitive applications process myself, including professional coaching on personal statements and interviews, I can pass on what I learned. I help students work out what genuinely interests them academically, write a personal statement that reflects it, and prepare for interviews so they can talk about their subject clearly and confidently. I have been a Private Tutor for the last 9 years, tutoring students who have been finding their GCSE and A-Level curriculum difficult. Overall, I have taught more than 100 students over the last 9 years and helped them achieve their desired grades and university. If you have the passion and desire to do well in your studies, I will help you achieve it regardless of your current grades. I have an Honours Degree from Imperial College London for BEng Joint Maths and Computer Science. I have also achieved A*A*A*A in my A-Level for Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science as well as 8A*s, 3As and 1B in my GCSEs. Lesson Structure: My online lessons mainly happen through Microsoft OneNote. Every OneNote notebook I have for a student keeps track of the following three parts: - a curriculum checklist to make sure our lessons are kept on track, - lesson notes to keep track of everything we worked on together, and - mini-mock exams to help students get used to exam situations. I keep my lesson from 1 to 2 hours, where we use the first 30 mins to cover anything you need help with immediately. For the rest of the lesson, we work on topics that you have found challenging/difficult, making sure we are on top of everything covered in school. If we have managed to cover all of those topics, we move on to topics that will be covered in school. This will help give the student a head start and stay ahead of your class, which will help make school lessons easier. Furthermore, I like to keep students on track with their independent studying outside of our lessons by giving mini-mock exams approximately every 2 months (given we do lessons twice a week). These mini-mock exams help students get acclimatised to exam situations and provide motivation for students to do independent studying outside school and our private lessons. Each mini-mock contains exam-style questions with a couple of difficult/tricky questions to help students prepare for the worst-case scenario when it comes to the actual exam they will be sitting. If needed, I provide proper mock exams to help recreate an exam situation to help students gauge their shortcomings and help them improve themselves.

I graduated with a First from Oxford last year for my undergraduate History BA. I am really passionate about teaching and this year I have engaged in a variety of teaching roles, including volunteering as an English teacher for 3 months in Nepal. I have tutored History and Geography A level, alongside English Lit and Language GCSE for over 3 years. My tutoring style primarily revolves around teaching technique based essay writing improvements, and my students are able to massively boost their academic performance by focusing on these core skills. I am keen to provide a personalised experience tailored to each individual student which best suits their individual needs and learning approach.
