Hi, I’m Alfie — a recent Classics graduate from the University of Manchester with a deep love of language, literature, and big ideas. I tutor in Latin, Ancient Greek, English, and Religious Studies. I studied Latin at both GCSE and A-Level (achieving an A in each), before reading Classics at the University of Manchester, where I graduated with a 2:1. At university, I focused heavily on mastering Classical Languages — Latin and Ancient Greek — and even studied at the Novum Vivarium in Rome, a renowned school where all instruction is delivered entirely in spoken Latin. Alongside my language studies, I developed a strong interest in the cultural, literary, and philosophical dimensions of the ancient world — interests which naturally extend into English and Religious Studies. I’ve hosted a podcast with Luke Ranieri, one of the world’s foremost scholars in modern spoken Latin, where we explored topics ranging from grammar to deeper questions about meaning and tradition. I’ve now been tutoring for over a year across various platforms. My teaching style is grounded in curiosity and collaboration: I like to ask open-ended questions and guide students toward figuring things out for themselves. This is especially effective in subjects that require interpretation and reflection, like English and Religious Studies. One thing I often help students with is building confidence. Many pupils — especially in intellectually demanding subjects — struggle not with ability but with a fear of making mistakes. My lessons create a safe space where trial and error is encouraged and where even small wins are celebrated. I have full working proficiency in French, and can provide assistance with all aspects of the exam, including listening, reading, writing and grammar. Having completed several intensive language courses in France, one of my strengths as a French tutor lies in conversation practice - I can therefore also help with the oral exam, including the Independent Research Project, implementing complex sentence structures, presentation technique and using sophisticated vocabulary. While I can tutor for all exam specifications, I will be of particular use in AQA A-Level and AQA GCSE, as these are the exam boards I sat at school. For English Literature, I can cover a wide range of skills such as essay technique, text analysis (play, book, or poem), grammar and language. While I can tutor a wide variety of texts depending on the exam board, I can provide specialised knowledge in the following texts: Hamlet, The Great Gatsby, The Grapes of Wrath, The Duchess of Malfi, Paradise Lost, A Streetcar Named Desire, Purple Hibiscus, The Crucible, Jane Eyre, and Romeo and Juliet. I can provide support with a broad range of resources and key skills, especially with the CIE GCSE and the OCR A-Level specifications. For English Language, I can also provide useful resources and support with all aspects of the exam paper, including comprehension, grammar and the extended writing section. As I sat the CIE GCSE exam, I can provide specialised knowledge of this specification.

I am a second-year LLB Law student at the University of Warwick, predicted a First Class degree. I achieved 10 Grade 9s at GCSE and ranked 1st in my A-Level English Language cohort with a 95% score.
