Hello! My name is Saleena, and I am a first year Physics with Theoretical Physics student at Imperial College London. I have previous experience in tutoring Maths and English and I am very passionate about teaching! I believe that a gentle but effective approach to tutoring is best, by increasing first understanding and then practice. My academic journey has gone from having a passion for the law to studying physics, so I have lots of experience in honing skills in different subjects! Hi There! I'm Zoya and I was Head Girl at St. Dominic's Sixth Form College. During my time I consistently worked as a bridge between peers and the teaching staff/Governing body of the sixth form. I am a Graduate Entry Medicine student at the University of Nottingham with a degree in Biomedical Science and over five years of tutoring and teaching experience. During this time, I have worked with well over 250 students across both one-to-one and group settings, supporting learners with different abilities, academic backgrounds and ambitions. My experience ranges from helping students rebuild confidence in subjects they find difficult to supporting high-achieving students aiming for the very top grades and competitive university courses. I offer tutoring across a broad range of academic and admissions-focused areas, including GCSE and A-Level Mathematics and Sciences, alongside specialist support for students interested in Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry and other competitive STEM degrees. I can also support students with university admissions preparation, including entrance examinations, interview and MMI preparation, personal statements, application strategy and developing the communication and critical-thinking skills required for competitive healthcare applications. For GCSE and A-Level students, my teaching goes far beyond simply working through a textbook. Whether a student needs help catching up, moving from Foundation to Higher level, strengthening a particular topic or pushing from a good grade towards an 8, 9, A or A*, I build sessions around the specific outcome they are working towards. This allows me to check whether they genuinely understand the material rather than simply recognising an explanation when they see it. Mistakes are then used constructively to identify exactly what needs to be improved. Exam technique is another major part of my tutoring. Many students know significantly more than their examination results initially suggest because they struggle to translate their knowledge into marks. I therefore teach students how to interpret command words, recognise common question structures, identify what an examiner is looking for, structure answers effectively, show appropriate working, manage their time and approach unfamiliar questions without panicking. For students approaching mocks or final examinations, I can create a more intensive and targeted programme based around their weakest areas. This can include topic-by-topic revision, timed questions, past papers, error analysis and repeated practice of the types of questions that are costing them marks. Rather than simply completing large numbers of questions, I encourage students to understand why mistakes happened and how to prevent the same mistake appearing again. I also work with students who are currently struggling with confidence. A student may have convinced themselves that they are "bad at Maths" or "not a science person" after repeatedly finding certain topics difficult. I try to change that mindset by breaking challenging material into achievable steps and allowing the student to experience consistent progress. As their understanding improves, their confidence usually follows. At the other end of the spectrum, I enjoy stretching ambitious students who are targeting the highest grades. For these students, sessions can focus on more demanding problems, unfamiliar applications of familiar concepts, higher-level reasoning and the subtle details that separate a strong answer from an exceptional one. My aim is to ensure that students are not simply comfortable with routine questions but are prepared for the more challenging questions that often determine the highest grade boundaries. Alongside traditional academic tutoring, I provide specialist support for students considering Medicine and other healthcare careers. As a Graduate Entry Medicine student who has personally navigated the competitive medical admissions process, I understand that successful applications require much more than good grades. Students may need to balance academic work with admissions tests, work experience, extracurricular activities, personal statements and interviews, and I can help them approach this process strategically. For UCAT preparation, support can include developing approaches to the different question types, improving speed and accuracy, identifying weaker sections, reviewing practice performance and building an effective preparation strategy around the student's test date. Rather than relying solely on completing question banks, I focus on helping students understand the reasoning and time-management strategies behind their performance. I can also support graduate applicants preparing for the GAMSAT, including structured preparation across the different sections, development of reasoning skills, essay preparation and approaches to tackling unfamiliar scientific information. Graduate Entry Medicine applications can be particularly complicated because different universities use different admissions criteria, and I can also help students think strategically about their wider application. For medical, dental and healthcare interviews, I provide preparation for both traditional interviews and Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). This can include communication stations, ethical scenarios, motivation for Medicine, teamwork, NHS-related discussions, role-play, data interpretation, prioritisation and challenging follow-up questions. I aim to help students develop genuine confidence and structured thinking rather than memorising rehearsed answers that can sound unnatural in an interview. I can also help students develop broader academic skills that benefit them across several subjects. These include revision planning, effective note-taking, active recall, spaced repetition, exam planning, independent study, time management and learning how to analyse their own mistakes. My medical and biomedical science training has required me to process large volumes of complex information efficiently, and I use many of the principles I have developed through my own education when helping students improve the way they learn. Parents and students can therefore use my sessions in several different ways. Some students work with me regularly throughout the academic year, while others need short-term intensive support before mocks or final examinations. Some require full teaching of a subject, while others primarily need help with specific weaknesses, exam technique, admissions preparation or confidence. Whatever the starting point, I begin by understanding where the student currently is, what they are aiming for and what is preventing them from reaching that goal. From there, I can structure our sessions around clear priorities and continuously adapt them according to their progress. My overall aim is not simply to help students complete homework or achieve a better mark on their next test. I want students to develop the knowledge, confidence and problem-solving ability to become increasingly independent learners. A successful student should eventually be able to approach an unfamiliar question, break it down logically, recognise which knowledge or technique is required and trust themselves to work towards the solution.
