Hello! I am Bertie and I’m a trainee lawyer having previously studied Classics at Durham University where I graduated with a First. I love the the English language, classical world, History and History of Art and enjoy tutoring in these fields. I got 11 A*s in 12 GCSEs, and 4 A*s at A Level in English, History, Latin and Greek. I write articles for magazines, I am a member of my university Diplomatic Society producing a weekly dossier and love to read about current affairs and historical books and articles. I have experience in tutoring and enjoy watching students develop their skills and help them to achieve better grades. I will tailor my sessions to each student and focus on areas that they struggle with before moving on to the next topic. I enjoy the problem solving aspect of tutoring and am always up for the challenge of teaching difficult subjects. Hi, I'm Emily and I've recently graduated from the University of St Andrews with a First Class Master of Arts (Hons) in English. I'm passionate about education and first discovered my love for teaching when I began tutoring Year 11 students for their IGCSE English exams in Sixth Form. It was so rewarding to watch their confidence grow and grades improve, and I would love to help your child to do the same. As someone who studied English Literature at university and also studied history and Latin at A-Level, I have lots of experience with textual analysis and essay writing. I provide clear learning objectives for each session and engaging activities that range from mind maps to open-ended discussions, games and writing practice. I also appreciate the value of past paper practice and am keen to demystify the exam process. For each subject, I provide detailed feedback on past paper responses and guide my students through the layout of their exams, as well as the assessment objectives and criteria listed in the mark schemes. I am also always happy to offer advice on how to revise effectively and successfully navigate the stress of assessment periods. In addition to exams, I am eager to support students who are preparing to apply for higher education and can offer support for interview preparation and personal statements. Since I began tutoring, I have helped students from across the globe to pass their Common Entrance exams to Eton College and achieve top grades in their GCSEs. I am Alice, a first class Classics graduate from Oxford University. I have been tutoring formally for four years and I offer tutoring for English Language, History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry and Maths up to GCSE level, as well as Latin and Greek up to A level standard. I achieved 9s in all of these subjects, with 98% in History, 97% in Geography (top in the exam board), 98% in Maths (and 94% in Additional Mathematics), 98% in Latin, and 97% in Greek (I did not receive percentages in Chemistry and Biology but achieved 97 and 99% respectively in my mocks). I can also provide mentorship for University applications, particularly for Oxbridge. My tutoring style consists of both general teaching (such as Latin, Greek and English Language from scratch) as well as specification-based teaching. My main focus is on inspiring confidence and encouraging productive revision techniques, including an emphasis on past papers and tailoring one's answers to what the exam board wants. I believe that, by learning from examiners' reports and mark schemes, one can provide the examiner with exactly what they want to hear. This is crucial for achieving top marks or for jumping up several grades.
