Hello! I am Bertie and I’m a trainee lawyer having previously studied Classics at Durham University where I graduated with a First. I love the the English language, classical world, History and History of Art and enjoy tutoring in these fields. I got 11 A*s in 12 GCSEs, and 4 A*s at A Level in English, History, Latin and Greek. I write articles for magazines, I am a member of my university Diplomatic Society producing a weekly dossier and love to read about current affairs and historical books and articles. I have experience in tutoring and enjoy watching students develop their skills and help them to achieve better grades. I will tailor my sessions to each student and focus on areas that they struggle with before moving on to the next topic. I enjoy the problem solving aspect of tutoring and am always up for the challenge of teaching difficult subjects. Hi, I’m Alfie — a recent Classics graduate from the University of Manchester with a deep love of language, literature, and big ideas. I tutor in Latin, Ancient Greek, English, and Religious Studies. I studied Latin at both GCSE and A-Level (achieving an A in each), before reading Classics at the University of Manchester, where I graduated with a 2:1. At university, I focused heavily on mastering Classical Languages — Latin and Ancient Greek — and even studied at the Novum Vivarium in Rome, a renowned school where all instruction is delivered entirely in spoken Latin. Alongside my language studies, I developed a strong interest in the cultural, literary, and philosophical dimensions of the ancient world — interests which naturally extend into English and Religious Studies. I’ve hosted a podcast with Luke Ranieri, one of the world’s foremost scholars in modern spoken Latin, where we explored topics ranging from grammar to deeper questions about meaning and tradition. I’ve now been tutoring for over a year across various platforms. My teaching style is grounded in curiosity and collaboration: I like to ask open-ended questions and guide students toward figuring things out for themselves. This is especially effective in subjects that require interpretation and reflection, like English and Religious Studies. One thing I often help students with is building confidence. Many pupils — especially in intellectually demanding subjects — struggle not with ability but with a fear of making mistakes. My lessons create a safe space where trial and error is encouraged and where even small wins are celebrated. Over time, I’ve seen this approach transform not just how students perform, but how they think. Outside tutoring, I’m a passionate language learner (I speak French and Italian and am learning Russian) and I enjoy playing guitar in my free time. I’m Luke, an academic scholar and reading Classics at Christ Church , Oxford (first class honours in all years so far). I am Alice, a first class Classics graduate from Oxford University. I have been tutoring formally for four years and I offer tutoring for English Language, History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry and Maths up to GCSE level, as well as Latin and Greek up to A level standard. I achieved 9s in all of these subjects, with 98% in History, 97% in Geography (top in the exam board), 98% in Maths (and 94% in Additional Mathematics), 98% in Latin, and 97% in Greek (I did not receive percentages in Chemistry and Biology but achieved 97 and 99% respectively in my mocks). I can also provide mentorship for University applications, particularly for Oxbridge. My tutoring style consists of both general teaching (such as Latin, Greek and English Language from scratch) as well as specification-based teaching. My main focus is on inspiring confidence and encouraging productive revision techniques, including an emphasis on past papers and tailoring one's answers to what the exam board wants.
