I am Alice, a third year Classics student at Oxford University. I have been tutoring formally for over two years and I offer tutoring for English Language, History, Geography, Biology and Maths up to GCSE level, as well as Latin and Greek up to A level standard. I achieved 9s in all of these subjects, with 98% in History, 97% in Geography (awarded a prize for coming top in the exam board), 98% in Maths (and 94% in Additional Mathematics), 98% in Latin, and 97% in Greek. Hi, I’m Alfie — a recent Classics graduate from the University of Manchester with a deep love of language, literature, and big ideas. I tutor in Latin, Ancient Greek, English, and Religious Studies. I studied Latin at both GCSE and A-Level (achieving an A in each), before reading Classics at the University of Manchester, where I graduated with a 2:1. At university, I focused heavily on mastering Classical Languages — Latin and Ancient Greek — and even studied at the Novum Vivarium in Rome, a renowned school where all instruction is delivered entirely in spoken Latin. Alongside my language studies, I developed a strong interest in the cultural, literary, and philosophical dimensions of the ancient world — interests which naturally extend into English and Religious Studies. I’ve hosted a podcast with Luke Ranieri, one of the world’s foremost scholars in modern spoken Latin, where we explored topics ranging from grammar to deeper questions about meaning and tradition. I’ve now been tutoring for over a year across various platforms. My teaching style is grounded in curiosity and collaboration: I like to ask open-ended questions and guide students toward figuring things out for themselves. This is especially effective in subjects that require interpretation and reflection, like English and Religious Studies. One thing I often help students with is building confidence. Many pupils — especially in intellectually demanding subjects — struggle not with ability but with a fear of making mistakes. My lessons create a safe space where trial and error is encouraged and where even small wins are celebrated. Hello, my name is William and I am 23 years old. I studied at Durham University and graduated with a B.A (2:1) in Classics. At A-Level I took Latin (A*) German (A) and Classical Civilisation (A). At GCSE, I received a grade 9 in Latin and an A* in German. Most of my modules at university related to the translation of Latin Language and the analysis of Latin Literature so I would say that these two are my strongest areas. However, I still have a large interest in all things Classics. Therefore, I also took a range of historical content modules such as: The History of Writing in the Mediterranean; Greeks and Persians; and Ancient Science. Currently, I am studying Attic Greek in my own free-time. My interest in languages doesn't stop at ancient languages, since I also studied German for many years at school and continued it until I started university. During A-Level I had to write essays in German about a range of things such as analyses of 'Die Verwandlung' by Franz Kafka; and of 'Das Leben Der Anderen'. In addition to this, I also have experience giving presentations in German about complex topics such as: Societal development in Germany; Political and artistic culture in German-speaking countries; Immigration; and Germany's reunification. Yes, a lot of pretty hefty topics there haha. I would say that my style of teaching is clear, concise, and detailed. I strive to explain things in a very digestible manner, which is important when it comes to complex and niche topics such as Latin grammar. In conclusion, even though I'm new to formal tutoring, I look forward to gaining some experience and being able to return again to some of the subjects that I enjoyed most at school and university.
