Hello, my name is Ben. I am a Mathematics graduate from the University of Exeter, and I specialise in tutoring GCSE and A-level Mathematics. I achieved a grade 9 in GCSE Mathematics and an A at A-level, and I have now been tutoring mathematics for around two years. I particularly enjoy helping students move beyond simply memorising methods and towards understanding why the mathematics works. I find that once the underlying idea makes sense, unfamiliar questions become much less intimidating. My lessons usually begin with a few questions to establish a student's current understanding and identify any gaps or weaker areas. From there, I tailor the session around what they need most, whether that is revisiting a difficult topic, developing problem-solving skills, working through exam-style questions, or improving exam technique. I aim to make lessons interactive rather than simply demonstrating solutions. I will often ask students to talk me through their reasoning, break a difficult problem into smaller pieces, and try alternative approaches when their first method does not work. My goal is for students to become increasingly confident solving problems independently. Outside tutoring, I have spent more than ten years studying and performing close-up and stage magic, and I also enjoy chess, programming, and mathematical projects. These have all influenced the way I approach mathematics: as something built from patterns, logic and problem-solving rather than a collection of formulas to remember.
