Hello, my name is Ben. I am a Mathematics graduate from the University of Exeter, and I specialise in tutoring GCSE and A-level Mathematics. I achieved a grade 9 in GCSE Mathematics and an A at A-level, and I have now been tutoring mathematics for around two years. I particularly enjoy helping students move beyond simply memorising methods and towards understanding why the mathematics works. I find that once the underlying idea makes sense, unfamiliar questions become much less intimidating. My lessons usually begin with a few questions to establish a student's current understanding and identify any gaps or weaker areas. From there, I tailor the session around what they need most, whether that is revisiting a difficult topic, developing problem-solving skills, working through exam-style questions, or improving exam technique. I aim to make lessons interactive rather than simply demonstrating solutions. I will often ask students to talk me through their reasoning, break a difficult problem into smaller pieces, and try alternative approaches when their first method does not work. My goal is for students to become increasingly confident solving problems independently. Outside tutoring, I have spent more than ten years studying and performing close-up and stage magic, and I also enjoy chess, programming, and mathematical projects. These have all influenced the way I approach mathematics: as something built from patterns, logic and problem-solving rather than a collection of formulas to remember. I'm a very passionate math nerd and its something I've always been good at and have been good at explaining. I got a grade 9 in math in GCSE and self taught GCSE further math managing to achieve an 8. With more resources in College I was able to achieve A* A* A* in my A-Levels for Math, Further Math and Computer Science while also being chosen to assist weaker Math students at my college as the Math department at my college was stretched. I come form a black working class household so my values are to be committed in what you love and to work hard at it and it is something I always instill in my students. My teaching motivations is seeing kids that didn't have the same opportunities as me struggling with math. I wanna bridge the gap for them as I was someone who barely had any resources when i was earlier in my in math journey. However, my love of Math made up for that. I wanna show the next generation that Math is for everyone and there is no specific image of a Mathematics Student.
