Hi, my name is Max! I’m currently a first-year student at the University of Warwick studying History and Politics. I am looking to tutor students at both A-Level and GCSE (History) levels and help them get the best possible grade. Before university, I took a year to travel the world, giving me valuable life experience, meaning I am mature, reliable, and patient, and will bring these skills alongside my subject knowledge and a positive energy to help as a tutor. I have success in these subjects, achieving an A* in History and an A in Politics at A-Level, as well as seven Grade 9’s at GCSE, including in History. I studied GCSE History (Edexcel), taking the Cold War, Weimar & Nazi Germany, and Elizabethan England topics. At A-Level History (OCR) I took the topics of Russia 1894-1941, Colonialism to Independence (British Empire), and Alfred & the Making of England (Anglo-Saxons). I also did a personal study essay on the factors motivating the USA in the Vietnam War and an Extended Project Qualification on the Cuban Revolution, achieving an A*. I did A-Level Politics (Edexcel) and can help students prepare for either UK politics, US politics, or ideologies (including Feminism). I can help students revise and prepare for exams on any of these topics, and have a keen interest in them myself. I am a strong believer that for humanities subjects the best way to revise and prepare for exams is to plan essay questions, and I can help students in the best way to do this (ensuring that students incorporate what the examiner is looking for). I am also happy to help students recap their knowledge on particular parts of the course and ensure understanding of the fundamental concepts, ideas, definitions, and examples. I also have some direct experience as a tutor, as I acted as a mentor for Numeracy and Literacy for students between Years 7-9, helping young students progress in Maths and English. As an undergraduate student, my interests lie largely in modern history, looking at revolutions, colonialism (and decolonisation), and how the modern world was made (ranging from travel and epidemics, to slavery and the environment). I am also studying the history of the Middle East, looking at oil in Iran and Arabia, the Palestine conflict in Israel, and the broader issue of Islamic militarism. In Politics, I am looking at core political concepts and ideas, ideologies, and theories of international relations and global governance. I can bring my knowledge from this and my experience as a GCSE/A-Level student to help students prepare for their exams or generally improve their foundation in History and/or Politics. I’m Luke, an academic scholar and reading Classics at Christ Church , Oxford (first class honours in all years so far). For the past year, I’ve greatly enjoyed tutoring students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, supporting them on their journeys to Oxbridge with great success. At Westminster School, I was fortunate to be surrounded by teachers who pushed me to reach my full potential - something I aim to do with every student I teach. Hi! My name is Isabella and I am an Undergraduate student at the University of Manchester, studying Politics and International Relations and progressing into second year this September. I have a successful academic record, having achieved 3 A* in History, English Literature and Sociology A-Levels. However, this was not always the case; I had achieved a C in my first history mock in Year 12 and a B in my last mock before exams in Year 13. Yet, through targeting the topics and skills that were difficult for me, I was able to improve dramatically in History, gaining exam results that were amongst the top 5 students in my year group of 139. The drastic improvements I made in History also taught me how to effectively revise for English and Sociology too. Hi, I am Andrew, an LSE student reading history. I am a strong believer that anyone who has the right guidance and a way into a topic or subject can achieve the very best grades. Similarly, with universities I believe that my experience of getting an offer at London’s best university (8 applications per place), according to the Complete University Guide and The Times, shows the strength of my approach. As a fully qualified Tennis Coach I have considerable experience in coaching people and in communicating effectively with people, all of whom learn in different ways. Coaching tennis has taught me important time management skills, when balancing that with academic work. I achieved 10 A* at GCSE (5 at Grade 8; 5 at Grade 9) and achieved 2 A* in History and in Economics and an A in Politics at A Level. I am particularly keen to help A Level Economics student who may struggle with the longer essay response questions, especially if they come from a STEM background where essays are not the norm for assessment.
