Hi! I'm Adèle, I'm a French native currently studying a BA at UCL in International Relations and Japanese and soon a Master student in Public Policy at the University of Tokyo. I am part of a UCL Student Project called Impact Initiative that teaches English to London-based refugees and for which I designed materials and supervised online lessons. I have experience tailoring my tutoring to different age-groups and the tools available to me thanks to my mom -which works as a speech/language therapist- have been incredibly useful for this. My older sister is dyslexic and my little brother has very low eyesight and I would frequently help them study and practice their writing with me when we lived together. I believe that a tutor's efficiency is stronlgy influenced by their personal journey, and though GCSEs were smooth sailing with results of 6A*s, 2As and 3Bs , my A levels presented me with siginificant challenges. A crucial aspect of a tutor's efficiency is their backstory, and though GCSEs seemed to be a smooth ride (6A*s, 2As, 3Bs), the same could not be said for A levels. In the January exams of Year 13, my grades were BCDE in Spanish, Chemistry, English Literature and French. The outcome looked uncertain but I was determined to not allow the current situation to define the future. Through honest reflection, dedicated prayers, and relentless hard work, I transformed my reuslts into A*AAB on Results day. This experience taught me the value of perserverance in overcoming academic obstacles; a quality I will instil into my students, whichever goal or grade they hope to acheive. As a recent graduate from the University of Oxford my strengths as a tutor lie in my holistic and interdisciplinary approach. This aspect of tutoring was developed from my first moments at Oxford. My paper ‘Approaches to History’ not only pushed me to consider the development of history as a discipline but also the way it was influenced and shaped by other disciplines such as anthropology, sociology and ideas such as that of the nation-state. I believe this approach to learning applies itself very well, especially at A-level where the specification encourages a broad range of reading and to think in a way which is outside of the box. Having recently graduated with a 2:1 from Oxford with a dissertation that was only one mark off a first-class, I believe that I have the skills and knowledge to equip my mentees with the tools they need to succeed in their educational exploits; this is also justified by my range of experience tutoring over a number of platforms. The areas of my tutoring that my skill set are of particular use: 1. KS3 & GCSE Level: I am comfortable teaching GCSE business studies, French, Religious studies and history.
