I graduated with a First from Oxford last year for my undergraduate History BA. I am really passionate about teaching and this year I have engaged in a variety of teaching roles, including volunteering as an English teacher for 3 months in Nepal. I have tutored History and Geography A level, alongside English Lit and Language GCSE for over 3 years. My tutoring style primarily revolves around teaching technique based essay writing improvements, and my students are able to massively boost their academic performance by focusing on these core skills. I am keen to provide a personalised experience tailored to each individual student which best suits their individual needs and learning approach. As a graduate in History, I am extremely experienced in essay writing (having to had to write weekly essays over 3 years). Thus I am well equipped to provide useful feedback and tips for any aspiring humanities student. I am currently studying Neuroscience at King's College London this academic year 2024/25 and hope to become a tutor for you or your child. With my previous experience volunteering as a Patient befriender and a Mealtime buddy at Princess Royal University Hospital as part of the King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, I believe that I have the appropriate communication skills and teamwork to be able to provide an enjoyable teaching experience for my students. **Teaching style** To me, good communication is consistently and actively listening to the student’s needs and goals for their academic progress. I would do this by tailoring my support to whatever aspirations the student may have, to provide the relevant information for appropriate work experience, supercurriculars and extracurriculars as well as help to structure a fantastic personal statement. **My experience** During my time volunteering, I was committed to supporting patients the Dementia and Cardiology ward by meeting any dietary requests, provided a safe space for patients to talk to me about any queries and/or concerns or just to have a nice conversation. I learnt how to tailor my way of communication to the patients’ needs (i.e., difficulty hearing whilst wearing PPE) and become confident talking to elderly patients about their mental health—even a mere game of chess or painting their nails could lift their mood! Seeing how medical professionals work together to create a friendly environment amidst chaos was inspirational, helping me remain calm when working under pressure. Outside from my clinical experience, working at the call centre of Specsavers as an Optical Assistant helped me improve my ability to work under pressure more effectively and efficiently despite feeling stressed. When working for Specsavers, I was capable of presenting a high level of customer service when booking or cancelling a range of different appointments (including triaging emergency bookings), and informing patients of availability of glasses whilst being responsible for the call-centre on Sundays. My work experience at a local nursery taught me how to creatively encourage play and fun my joining in and making new and engaging games and help run Storytime and Circle Time sessions whilst bearing in mind their safety and well-being. Furthermore, ensuring that the young toddlers had eaten and taking naps at allocated times was a responsibility of mine that I found important as it allowed the children to learn the significance of rest for their minds and bodies. Hi, I am Andrew, a second year LSE student reading history. I am a strong believer that anyone who has the right guidance and a way into a topic or subject can achieve the very best grades. Similarly, with universities I believe that my experience of getting an offer at London’s best university (8 applications per place), according to the Complete University Guide and The Times, shows the strength of my approach. As a fully qualified Tennis Coach I have considerable experience in coaching people and in communicating effectively with people, all of whom learn in different ways. Coaching tennis has taught me important time management skills, when balancing that with academic work. I achieved 10 A* at GCSE (5 at Grade 8; 5 at Grade 9) and achieved 2 A* in History and in Economics and an A in Politics at A Level. I am particularly keen to help A Level Economics student who may struggle with the longer essay response questions, especially if they come from a STEM background where essays are not the norm for assessment.
