Can negative numbers be square numbers?

Negative numbers cannot be square numbers, but they can be squared. When a negative number is squared, the result is always a positive number or zero. This is because multiplying two negative numbers together gives a positive result. For example, (-3) x (-3) equals 9, which is positive. Therefore, while negative numbers can produce square numbers when squared, square numbers themselves are always non-negative.
