Why does increasing the surface area of a solid reactant increase the rate of a reaction?

When the surface area of a solid reactant is increased, it exposes more particles to the other reactants or solvent. This leads to a higher frequency of collisions between particles, resulting in an increased rate of reaction. The larger surface area provides more sites for reactant particles to come into contact and react with each other.
