My name is Bethel. I am a driven tutor who enjoys providing students with a new way to learn the content taught at schools. My aim to install greater confidence into students to improve performance in examinations. Through my studying, I have developed a range of simple and effective techniques concerned with breaking down long-form literature and processing logic-based information. These skills are extremely helpful in the areas of English Literature, English Language, and Religious Studies. Using these methods I attained A,A* and A** respectively at GCSE. With a second A in English Literature writing my A-levels. For each topic, I provide students with an organised method that they can utilise and apply inside the 1-1's and outside their schooling. With my straightforward explanation of complex poems, literature and religious ideology, I have aided many students to exceed their academic expectations. Being a student myself, I go beyond just teaching and seek to cultivate an environment where students feel confident enough to stay in communication and take a positive action towards learning outside of classes.

As a recent graduate from the University of Cambridge my strengths as a tutor lie in my holistic approach. From studying Theology, Religion and Philosophy of Religion I can teach specialised knowledge in certain subjects; however, I also aim to consider my student's unique learning styles and how to teach accordingly, as well as building study techniques to provide the greatest opportunity of success. My personal academic strengths lie particularly in the philosophy of religion (Christian, Hindu and Buddhist), literary analysis (poetry, English and American literature) the anthropology, sociology and politics of modern religion. In my first year University examinations, I received a starred 1st in my philosophy exam and a 1st in my social science of religion exam, which were all in person. In my second-year examinations, I received a starred first in my 'Theology and Literature' dissertation. In my final year I received a starred first in my dissertation which was on literary analysis if Toni Morrison’s theological novels. I am also graduate of Godolphin and Latymer where I obtained 4A*s during my in-person A-level examinations (2019). I also completed a foundation year at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and is a keen actress in her spare time. The areas of tutoring that my skill set are of particular use: 1. Primary school level: I have experience with tutoring at the primary school level in Maths and English. Here, I endeavour to understand the learning style of the child to explain concepts to them in an accessible way that they may not be receiving in the classroom. As a student who struggled academically in primary school with undiagnosed dyslexia and ADHD, I also try to create a safe environment that is free of shame. With this attention, I have found that my students were able to ask questions that they felt too embarrassed to ask in more formal settings. I believe this helped to achieve results in the classroom as my students gained confidence and personal command over their knowledge and learning. 2. Special needs/learning differences: I have work experience as a teaching assistant in over 10 special needs schools in London, primarily with non-verbal children. I have also provided private tuition to non-verbal children. With the guidance of experienced SEN teachers, I learnt how to engage children who have a range of individualised learning requirements. I believe this has strengthened my ability to understand many forms of communication, allowing me to be more attuned to a child’s unspoken boundaries/comfort levels. 3. GCSE level: I have experience providing tuition in IGCSE English literature, language and Religious Studies (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism). I can also provide tutoring in philosophy, government and politics, and drama GCSE. Having achieved high results in these exams whilst coping with undiagnosed dyslexia and ADHD I have developed effective study techniques which I think can be helpful for all types of candidates. I can also provide guidance on exam technique and how to effectivity use extra time. 4. At A level I can provide tuition in English Literature, Religious Studies, Philosophy and Politics and Government, Drama (AS), as well as an Extended Personal Qualification (EPQ). While I can tutor for all specifications, I will be of particular use with AQA English Literature, OCR Religious Studies, Pearson Politics and Government and AQA EPQ. I sat these exams in person in 2019 and achieved A*s in all of them. Despite not taking the AQA philosophy A level myself, my degree covered the relevant specification content (epistemology, moral philosophy, metaphysics of God and mind) to a high level. Again, as a high-performing student who has learning differences, I can offer specific guidance and help to students who struggle with study techniques, focus, motivation or confidence issues. 5. Oxbridge/higher education mentoring: I also provide Oxbridge preparation sessions to students interested in my subject area which includes theology/philosophy as well as English literature ( litertrary analysis was an ongoing feature of my degree where i selected interdisciplinary modules set by professors who also taught in the Cambridge English faculty). In these teaching contexts where I have more specialised knowledge, I have learnt to strike a crucial balance between providing essential guidance whilst facilitating the student's own articulation of ideas. Having experienced this process, and been successful, I can provide practice interview questions, subject mentoring with recommended readings, as well as personal statement advice. I can also provide broader higher education mentoring which is not specific to oxbridge such as personal statement help. interdisciplinary
